Joint Health and Function
FlexC PRO EX supports overall joint health and slows down the effects of ageing on joints by

1.1) Relieve stiffness
Peptan® Collagen Peptides is effectve in improving joint stiffness. 94 women aged 40 to 70 with knee joint problems were administered 8g of Peptan® or placebo daily for a period of 6 months.
Peptan® Collagen Peptides can effectively help improve joint stiffness and reduce joint swelling. 94 women aged 40 to 70 with knee joint problems (Osteoarthritis) were administered 8g of Peptan® or placebo daily for a period of 6 months. Peptan®-treated subjects showed 24% decrease in stiffness and joint pain as reflected in the WOMAC** score
**WOMAC score is the standard international method for clinical assessment of joint health in patients.
Patients suffering from mild-to-moderate knee joint problems were administered with Curcumin C3 Complex® for 6 weeks. Curcumin C3 Reduct® was derived from Curcumin C3 Complex®.
Significant improvements in the stiffness and physical function scores were observed, compared to baseline (before treatment).
1.2) Improve joint flexibility
Maintaining flexibility and having full joint mobility is imperative for a good quality of life. Without joint flexibility, daily activities would become more difficult to perform. Muscles become more inflexible, muscle fatigue sets in more quickly and the individual would be more prone to injuries.
A randomised double-blind, placebo- controlled study was conducted on 94 women aged 40 to 70 with osteoarthritis. They were administered 8g of Peptan or placebo daily for a period of 6 months.
The Lysholm score is linked to the improvement of knee movement in everyday activities. Increased score value represents improvement in the condition. Elderly women with osteoarthritis who were given Peptan® for six months and was observed to have improved mobility (higher Lysholm score)
1.3) Protect and Lubricate Joints
In post-traumatic knee joint problems, joint injury triggers cartilage loss. In this study, subjects with post-traumatic knee joint problems were administered Peptan® IIm for 3 months. Peptan® IIm was shown to help protect the cartilage from further deterioration, as illustrated by the increased cartilage area. Besides, Peptan® IIm also promoted lubrication via the stimulation of proteoglycan production in cartilage cells, as shown by an increase in % of active cells.
Similar protective effects were also seen on a model for obesity-associated knee joint problems combined with injury. Peptan® IIm supplementation for 3 weeks helped protect cartilage (as shown by an increase of cartilage area) and lubricate joint (as shown by an increase in % of active cells).
1.4) Provide antioxidant protection
Besides “mechanical stress”, oxidative stress also contributes to the development and progression of knee joint problems.
Tetrahydrocurcumin (THC) is a powerful antioxidant that helps prevent formation of free radicals and quench pre-formed free radicals into non-free radical form. Research found that THC has higher antioxidant activity than vitamin C (commonly used antioxidant), as well as curcumin.
1.5) Reduce joint discomfort
In a double-blind clinical trial, 38 elderly patients who suffered from joint pain were orally administered 300 mg ovomet® or placebo daily and their pain levels were assessed using WOMAC questionnaire. Results showed that administration of ovomet® resulted in reduction of joint discomfort.
Ovomet® is more effective than other chondroprotectors in relieving joint discomfort as evaluated using WOMAC.
1.6) Provide healthy inflammatory effect
Clinical study showed that there were 16% decrease in inflammatory markers (TNF-α) in blood and 50% decrease in joint space after 40 days of treatment with 300 mg ovomet® per day.
1.7) Reduce degeneration of cartilage
In an in vivo study, 16 rats were induced knee arthrosis, a non-inflammatory degenerative condition associated with aging, affecting mainly the cartilage. 8 rats were administered with 5mg kg-1 rat day-1 Ovomet® for 18 weeks and 8 rats were administered with placebo. Results showed administration of Ovomet® resulted in remarkable improvement in the cartilage.
1.8) Protect tendon
High linear stiffness of tendon is associated with a lower risk of bone injury.
In a clinical trial, the linear stiffness of Achilles tendon (the tendon connecting calf muscles to the heel) in elderly people administered with 300 mg Ovomet® daily increased by 46.5%, while the linear stiffness decreased by 2.4% in the control group.
1.9) Improve symptoms of degenerative joint disease
In a clinical trial, Ovomet® was orally administered to patients (average age 73.5 years old) who suffered from acute joint discomfort. Medical reviews were conducted on day 0, 20 and 50 after treatment. Administration of Ovomet® was shown to result in remarkable reduction of joint discomfort and stiffness associated with joint degeneration and improvement of joint function as evaluated using WOMAC score.
1.10) Improve sports performance
In a clinical trial, oral administration of Ovomet® was shown to reduce discomfort and stiffness, and improve joint function of runners.

1.11) Improve hip function
In an animal test, 30 dogs were orally administered with 15 mg ovomet® kg-1 dog day-1 for 40 days and 10 dogs were administered placebo. Administration of Ovomet® resulted in 16% decrease in NO and TNF- , which are inflammatory blood markers, 7.8% increase in muscular perimeter, 10.3% increase in flexion grade, 7.8% decrease in discomfort, 15.8% improvement of hip function and 37.4% general improvement. These findings suggest the beneficial effects of Ovomet® on inflammatory response and improvement of hip discomfort.

2.1) Restore Bone Mineral Density and Strengthen Bone
Low bone mass is prevalent with age. Fracture risk is higher in the wrist, hip, and spine. These fractures can severely affect mobility and independence. There has always been a popular preconceived notion that osteoporosis is an inevitable part of aging. However, replenishment with the right nutrients, particularly Silica-Rx99®, helps protect the bones and decrease the chances of getting osteoporosis.
Low bone mineral density results when bone resorption (transfer of calcium from bone tissue to the blood) exceeds bone formation. Peptan® Collagen Peptides helps restore bone mineral density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.
In a monitoring test, 8 women aged between 45 and 82 years old and one man aged 58 years old were administered Silica-Rx99® (≥ 40mg silicon) daily for 6 months and their bone density was monitored. Surprisingly, all 9 participants showed an increase in bone density (100% efficacy). On average, bone density had increased by 13%. This includes postmenopausal women. Notably, Silica-Rx99® worked 4 to 6 times faster than a specific calcium supplement for all 9 participants. In this test, one participant was suffering from osteoporosis and her bone density kept decreasing despite taking prescribed drugs. Yet, her bone density increased after taking Silica-Rx99®. Besides Silica-Rx99®, there is no other silica products that has shown such dramatic improvement in bone density in such a short period of time. These groundbreaking findings have been published in Nippon Dental Newspaper and Medical Magazine Apolonia.
2.2) Stimulate Formation of Osteoblasts (bone-forming cells)
Osteoblasts are the cells that form new bone, which is made of bone collagen and minerals. With age, the rate of new bone formation does not catch up to the rate of bone resorption. This will lead to bone loss, reduced bone mass and increased fracture risk.
An in vitro study showed that Peptan® treatment supports the formation of bone-forming cells (osteoblasts) and stimulates activity while suppressing the bone-resorbing cells (osteoclasts). Hence, osteoclasts cannot develop into mature and fully functional cells that break down bone mass. The control protein (BSA) cannot demonstrate the same effect.
To assess this efficacy on humans, 10 healthy volunteers fasted for 12 hours and were administered with 25g Peptan® collagen peptides or 25g hydrolysed casein dissolved in water. Results confirmed that collagen-enriched blood serum helped increase osteoblast activity, support bone formation and decrease osteoclastogenesis, which is responsible for the degradation of bone cells.
Sarcopenia – the loss of muscle mass and function is a common concern that comes with age. Strong muscles are important as it attaches to bones and facilitates mobility and movement. They also help to keep joints in the correct alignment. Peptan® Collagen Peptides and Silica-Rx99® are beneficial for preserving lean body mass and supporting muscle tissue recovery.
3.1) Strengthen Tendon
Tendon is a connective tissue that connects muscle to bone and is capable of withstanding tension. With age, tendons become stiffer, weaker and more prone toward injury, leading to a snap or pop sound, marked weakness, inability to move the affected arm and severe pain.
Collagen peptides were administered daily for 8 weeks and a significant increase in collagen fibril diameter was observed. This indicates that collagen peptides help strengthen the Achilles tendon.
3.2) Preserve Lean Body Mass
Nitrogen balance is the key to muscle growth. Negative nitrogen balance (nitrogen loss is greater than nitrogen intake) destroys muscle, causing its degeneration.
In a double-blind, crossover trial to compare nitrogen balance in elderly women aged 65 to 85. One group had whey protein supplemented to their diet and the experimental group had collagen peptides supplemented to their diet. Results showed that collagen peptides help maintain nitrogen balance and preserve lean body mass.
Aging, exposure to the sun, loss of fatty tissue between the skin and muscle and stress are primary factors contributing to skin aging. In a randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical trial,106 women aged 40 to 65 received 10g of Peptan® or placebo per day for a period of three months. Results demonstrated stronger collagen structure and firmer skin following Peptan® intake.
4.2) Smoothen Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Fine lines and wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process. With age, the skin becomes thinner, less hydrated and less elastic. This leads to fine lines, creases and wrinkles on the skin. A study was conducted in France to evaluate the effects of oral Peptan® Collagen Peptides on cutaneous properties. 47 women aged 35 to 55 were given 10g of Peptan® powder mixed with liquids for 84 days. They observed significant decrease in the volume and depth of wrinkles.

In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, 30 healthy Brazilian women aged 45 to 60 years old received 5g Peptan® Collagen Peptides (bovine) daily for 3 months, and another 30 women received placebo control. Results showed significant improvements in the overall skin complexion. It is characterized by reduced pore visibility in the cheekbone region, reduced appearance of wrinkles around the eyes, nose and mouth, visible increase of the dermis density (contains strength-providing collagen layer of the skin).
